Enjoying the season, but whatever happened to Pat Francis? Bumped by Patton and Conan? It’s an outrage!

”
Matt says…
“

Pat is on once a month. He was on 804 in December, the Chicago live show in January and the SF Sketchfest live show in February. He was also on the “Happy New Year” bonus. You really wanna do this dance?

“

Thoroughly enjoying this episode with a guest I would have never imagined. I want a part two!

”
Rich says…
“

Go get em Matt ( I at one time upset Matt and am forever regretting it :-D ) that pfap guy must be hiding something. This season has been one of the best in variety of guests. Course when a guy writes a book and my favorite singer does the foreword, what can ya do. I love Black Sabbath.

”
Kaylene says…
“

I went back and listened to random episodes from season 4. I miss Andrew and also good call Matt in one episode you stated Blu-Ray would never catch on.
It is hilarious going back in time.

”
Pat Francis says…
“

I agree with pfapfap. Having Pat as part of the LIVE shows is great but there is nothing like him in the studio once a month. Let’s work on trying to make this happen.

”
Chile Verde says…
“

I saw the guest and thought that Pat would be involved in the show as well. Eddie Trunk talking to two people with horrible taste in music and Matt.

I kid! Looking forward to listening to this one.

I agree with Pat Francis on the subject of Pat Francis.

”
Wes says…
“

Halford doing War Pigs? I would have paid for the whole show just to hear that one song! Great episode. I love when the guests that I would never expect to be on (and wonder what they even have to bring to the table) have great stories and make me wish the show was another hour longer.

”
Rich says…
“

@Wes, if you go to grooveshark.com and search for Rob Halford Black Sabbath and you will find what you are looking for and listen(for free).

”
Andrew says…
“

I’m listening to this episode right now and I’m being told Pat Francis IS in the studio, so we’re still right on schedule.

”
Sub Farooqi says…
“

Great episode guys! But this better not count as a Pat Francis one though…hahaha. ;)

Anywho, I was wondering what everyone thinks about these music-centric guests episodes. If I had to rank them from favorite to least it’d be:

1) Ellis Paul
2) Eddie Trunk
3) Aimee Mann (from the Pardcast-a-thon)
4) Steve Almond
5) La Bamba (from the Pardcast-a-thon)
6) Mark Volman

Thoughts?

Keep up the great work guys! :)

I am on the record for not being interested in music so I was a little concerned this episode would be a dud in a long line of epic-ness. Man, was I wrong! I was enthralled with everything Trunk said, even though I have only a passing knowledge of the bands that were discussed. Definitely another great episode!

”
Susan says…
“

@ SubFarooqi- I would put the Mark Volman in the number 1 spot. While Eddie Trunk was interesting, I don’t listen to heavy metal or hard rock, I was still able to enjoy his stories. But on the number of laughs alone, I would have to go with Mark’s. “Turtles sleep on the floor?”

”
Dustin says…
“

I love the music centric episodes. Eddie Trunk is awesome! I’m a regular viewer of That Metal Show and was excited to see his name pop up on here. Also you could count the Patton Oswalt episode as music talk too for the most part and that was a great one too. Lookin forward to seeing Jimmy at the Jukebox in Peoria tomorrow.

”
Rich says…
“

JImmy at The Jukebox, you remember them, they opened for Naked Eyes on the Always Something There to Remind Me tour in the 80′s

”
mariano says…
“

I loved this episode so much that I listened to it thrice.
I feel like I discovered Kiss a decade before all the kids in my high school who made fun of me for loving “Alive” were wearing Kiss reunion shirts. That said, I could not get enough of this episode. And the background on Van Halen, awesome!

I loved it and I’ll be checking VH1 classic to see if Mr. Pardo makes a cameo.

:)

I agree with Brad on the subject of Pat Francis on the subject of Pat Francis.

“

This episode could have been 4 hours long and I would not have been bored at all. Was perfect to listen to while reorganizing my vinyl collection. Plus I now have 2 new rock books to purchase and read

”
Clyde W. says…
“

Another great episode. Season 8 has really raised the bar. I don’t even like metal but this ep. was really, really good. BTW, Volman in the one spot. With a bullet.

”
Conor says…
“

So, does this episode get better after the 15 minute mark? I couldn’t handle it any longer. Does this guy have gills? He doesn’t take a breath.

”
Adam says…
“

I had no clue who Eddie Trunk was before listening to this…I was captivated, he has some amazing stories. Matt kinda seemed like a fish out of water, but that’s to be expected with a metal guy. Ellis also does the best Sebastian Bach impression of all time, bar none!

”
nnfFan says…
“

@Conor… based on the other comments, it doesn’t sound like it does

”
Carissa says…
“

I’m a new listener to the Pardcast. I had no idea who Eddie Trunk was but I thought he was very entertaining and shared great stories. This was a really good episode!

BTW…My curiosity got the best of me and I had to go to iTunes to check out Robin Beck. I didn’t download any of her songs. :)

”
P Jones says…
“

I recall Jimmy used to be fond of saying “we book funny…not names” This episode and the other music ones don’t fit. I LOVE the show…. Hate the turtles/Ellis/metal episodes… Just sayin…

”
Pinman says…
“

Okay … I don;t know where to post this but here. Paul F Tompkins, Marc Maron and Maria Bamford (and heaps of others) are doing the Melbourne (australia) comedy festival …. yet no Jimmy Pardo. What the hell is going on with that? Come on down Jimmy and we will throw a tofu-shrimp on the barbie for you – being fully aware of your aversion to cooking flesh and seafood! Please come in 2012 my friend……

”
terri-marie says…
“

I really enjoyed this show, especially the Van Halen bits. (Totally agree with you Jimmy). Special mention to Keylene. You are not alone. Love and respect to one and all.

Never Not Completely Serious Rants About KISS

”
Jeff says…
“

I didn’t know about Eddie before the episode and am obviously not a big metal guy, but I loved the episode and hope you have him back. I love “funny”, but I also love these episodes where time just seems to fly by with all the great back and forth with the guests.

Keep booking the music guests; I’ve loved ALL of them!

”
Dylan says…
“

Hate to be the “request guests” guy. But am I the only one who thinks that Dave Grohl would be an awesome NNF guest?

”
Jason says…
“

I heard Jimmy say something about Bruce Kullick during the KISS segment of the discussion. He said he would talk to Eddie about it off air. Does Jimmy have a “beef” with Bruce or is he a fan of Bruce? Just wondering.

”
Pat Francis says…
“

I’m pretty sure Jimmy does not like Dave Grohl but does like Bruce Kulick. I’m 98% sure. I’m the exact opposite… love Grohl… Kulick… ehhh.

”
Mariano says…
“

With all the Kiss/Halen love thrown so far, the Axl Rose story was great too.
Also, as sad as it sounds, with all the great music being discussed in this episode, it’s T’Pow’s “Heart and Soul” that I’m having trouble getting out of my head.

”
Dylan says…
“

@Pat How can a person possibly hate Dave Grohl? Jimmy must have him confused with someone else. Kurt Cobain I can see, but Dave? DAVE?!

”
Jason Baldwin says…
“

It’s a testament to Never Not Funny that an episode with someone I don’t know as a guest, in a field in which I have little to no interest (I’m a music nerd, but don’t care much for metal) that I can come away still entertained. Not my favorite episode of the season, but definitely not a clunker.

”
Jam says…
“

Love the show and think it’s the best comedy podcast with the most diverse and interesting guests–Jimmy also does a really good job of steering the questioning to interesting places and getting the most out of the interview.

Sorry, but I think the current Pat Francis levels are *more* than sufficient; two sidekicks is Pat too many. Would also love to see more episodes. Carrolla and Maron are pumping out way more volume… for free.

”
Adam says…
“

@Jam they may be putting out more volume, but the quality is crap. I cherry pick the episodes that have guests I care about, because the hosts aren’t good enough to keep me interested in the shows…While Jimmy proved, in the first damn season, that he doesn’t need big names to keep the show awesome.

”
Mariano says…
“

I’ll second that, Adam. I enjoy listening to both Carrolla and Maron. More with Carrolla, since there are more episodes, it does get to be too much.

Plus, Wednesdays have something to look forward to.

P.s. I anxiously look forward to Carrolla and Maron returning to NNF.

”
Jam says…
“

I disagree @Adam–I think the quality of Carrolla and Maron is just as strong. They’re each completely different, but I think all three ‘casts are neck-and-neck in the content category. NNF used to be the front-runner (in my opinion) but Maron continues to get high-quality guests and his interviews go deep and compelling. Carrolla’s format has evolved such that it keeps his formerly unbearable rants/tangents to a minimum. Greg Fitzsimmons is also in the mix and just behind Maron in the compelling interview space. I still feel like NNF needs more episodes, or some tweak in it’s content, to continue justifying the premium price.

”
Kaylene says…
“

Normally I listen to each episode at least three times during the week. I have tried to listen to this three times and just can not get through it. Sorry….not my favorite…pretty good out of 8 seasons.

”
Emily says…
“

I too could not get past the 15-min mark, for the first time in my NNF history. What can I say, I like comedians on my comedy podcasts. Enjoying the season otherwise!

”
Ted says…
“

I know I’m really late to this discussion, but just in case anyone goes back and reads these, I wanted to put in my two cents.

There has never been an episode of NNF I haven’t liked. I trust Jimmy and Matt when it comes to bookings. They know what’s right for the show.

I think there are different types of listeners. Some go into the podcast with an expectation of numbers of jokes or laughs per minute. Others just like to hear Jimmy, Matt, and guest talk. I’m OK with a 20-minute stretch without a joke or a laugh. I appreciate how much Jimmy and Matt share with the audience.

Oh, and @Dylan (“Hate to be the “request guests” guy. But am I the only one who thinks that Dave Grohl would be an awesome NNF guest?”): Yes. Yes you are.

”

Unquestionably consider that which you reported. Your popular justification seemed to be on the world wide web the simplest point to be conscious of. I say to you, I definitely get irked when people today assume about worries that they plainly do not know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the best and defined out the entire point without having getting aspect-effects , people today can take a signal. Will probably be back again to get additional. Many thanks.

Doc Ross – I was FWB in the aircast at 7 and told to come back at week 9 but the doc was on vacation last week. This is now week 10 and have my appt this week so my guess is I’ll be out of the aircast then. I definitely feel like I’m ready. Others like Jim are on more aggressive schedules it appears. On balance I’m comfortable with the ROM and strength that I have right now and spend a lot of time up and about.
